Day 1- Mission to Mission

Early start today in hopes of catching the 9 am ferry to Vancouver, but I arrived about 10 minutes too late and was forced to take the 11 am ferry instead. Cold and windy ride, but great views.

Got off the ferry just past lunch and headed on my way, thankful to be where its warmer. Mostly flat and eash riding here, but the bike is heavy and the balance tricky. I have packed too much food and need to eat a lot to cut down before the mountains.

Just before crossing the Golden Ear bridge a staple imparts me with my first flat tire. A quick road side patch job and a gourmet ration pack snack and I am on my way. I decide the tire needs more air and stop again, but i dont take the gear off the bike and its shifting weight rips the valve, so I replaced th tire altogether. Next I accidently biked across the bridge in the car lanes instead of the side path for bikes. The drivers were very understanding, and even serenaded me with their car horns. Great views of the mountains coming across; a preview of whats to come.

Long but nice stretch towarda Mission. I am quite tired and the mental challenge begins. I was very happy to arrive at  camp.

The Sun Valley Trout Farm Camp is a pretty, quiet, and cheap place to rest for the night. Friendly and talkative staff. I get a nice spot adjacent to the pond and after eating my weight in rations, pack it in for an early sleep.
